About Us

The Society of Turkish American Architects, Engineers and Scientists Inc. (Turk Amerikan Mimar, Muhendis ve Bilimciler Dernegi), known as MIM, was established in New York City on May 22, 1970. MIM is a private non-profit, educational, non-political association of architects, engineers, and scientists. MIM has been through many growth phases starting from a small group of friends in 1970.

Now it reaches hundreds of members and is highly recognized in the Turkish American community. In addition, MIM has been accredited as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) by the United Nations.

MIM's goals are:

  • To foster professional advancement of its members
  • To promote and foster the unity, collaboration, networking and mutual cooperation of Turkish American architects, engineers and scientists.
  • To provide guidance to individuals and organizations seeking  technical, scientific and professional advice.
  • To develop collaboration with other scientific organizations.
  • To coordinate joint activities with professional, social, educational and cultural organizations with which MIM may be affiliated.

To this end, MIM organizes the following programs and activities:

  • MIM publishes a bi-annual news bulletin and web pages which include news about current and upcoming professional and social activities. They include original articles written by members informing us about their current research & professional activities, and personal updates on members.

  • Through its networking events, MIM provides sharing of information and experience between members about professional activities, job and project opportunities in the USA and Turkey.
  • MIM organizes seminars and business conferences on technical and scientific issues in order to improve the professional standing of scientists and professionals. MIM informs its members about current research in their own fields.
  • In addition to its role as a professional organization, MIM serves as a cultural community organization for its members and their families. Social events organized by MIM include many cultural and artistic events sponsored by other Turkish organizations, which enables MIM members and their families to maintain identity and heritage.
